Food Waste Disposal
Food Waste Disposal
For the large majority of businesses and organisations across the UK, food waste disposal is a significant concern. Whether it be a restaurant, a hotel or a business operating an in house canteen, food waste constitutes a large percentage of the waste that businesses and organisations across the UK dispose of. While businesses disposing of their food waste along with other general waste was once common practice, the situation has changed since 1 january 2014. Now, all businesses in Scotland which produce over 50kg of food waste are obligated to dispose of that waste separately, with the rest of the UK set to follow suit. Our team at Big Green can help businesses across the UK implement the necessary changes to ensure they comply fully with the most recent food waste disposal legislation.
The Waste (Scotland) 2012 regulations passed in 2012 introduced several changes to the way businesses and organisations in Scotland had to handle the waste they produced. One of the most significant, which came into force on 1 January 2014, was that businesses which produce more than 50kg of food waste per week had to separate this waste into a separate waste stream for separate collection. From 2016, businesses in Scotland which produce more than 5kg of food waste per week will be required to dispose of it separately.
